GREG MULYK | Composer, Sound Designer

Greg Mulyk is a Canadian Composer and Sound Designer specializing in music for visual media. His work includes short and feature length films, stop-motion animation, and art gallery installations, many of which have garnered awards on the international festival stage. In 2022, his score for Tango Through Life won a SOCAN Foundation Award for Best Animated Score, along with the Grand Prize for SOCAN Foundation’s Emerging Screen Composers under 30. His score for sonically driven short film SPOTS was also awarded Best Score and Sound at both the Silver State Film Festival in Las Vegas, and Tennessee International Indie Film Festival.

As a media composer, Mulyk strives to go beyond creating a set of musical themes to accompany a picture, but create a sonic palette that is both inventive and intrinsic to the material being seen, attempting to find the essence of the characters and subject itself. His scores feature fusions of traditional acoustic and world instruments, electroacoustic elements, sound design, and often experimentation with his own cupboard of resonant objects and custom sample instruments. He additionally works as arranger, and classical pianist.

Mulyk holds a BA in Music from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Music in Composition from the University of Alberta, where he also works as a research associate on projects related to music/sound therapy, and spatial audio.
